The Summer is almost gone....

Where have I been? Where have I been? Well I’ve been around…just not been doing much writing lately. Summer is a time for getting out behind the keyboard for a while anyway, hanging out in the back yard barefooted and playing with the dog.

I gave up my job at the Mill beginning of July. I’d been there for almost exactly 7 years and it just seemed time to up and move on. What’s next, you ask? I’m not exactly sure at this moment. Until school starts back up and the boys are gone for the day I’ll be around the house. We had to let our caregiver go a while back, as steeling out of the change jar and lying about hours worked wasn’t really workin for us. In some ways it was better than the caregiver who kept trying to make drug deals while she watched the boy, but if those are the only two options, I guess you can see why I might be needed about the singlewide these days.

Family health has had it’s ups and downs I guess…well in truth it’s mostly Ike with the ups and downs. Sweetie and the Older Boy have been as healthy as can be. Well except for last night where something Sweetie ate didn’t agree with her digestive system and decided to leave her body at about 11 pm or so. Not sure what happened there exactly, as we both had the same thing for dinner, and I was the one who cooked it all up and everything. She’s feeling better today though, so I’m not thinking it was food poisoning or anything, since we’ve both had that and there is no way you can be up and about just ten or so hours after calling Huey on the big white phone.

Last night was all about spewing actually. Ike was having some trouble getting to sleep and so on one of my trips to see him and ask what’s up, I picked him up and in the process somehow managed to break the plug on his feeding button. For those of you who don’t know, Ike is fed by a small device in his stomach called a Nutraport. It’s a little valve that allows for a feeding tube to be inserted and that’s how Ike gets fed. Sweetie and I like to leave a tube plugged in at night so’s we don’t have to wake him up when he gets his meds at about 10. Well last night the tube got caught on something and yanked that valve clean out, so Ike it spewing formula all over everything while I’m standing there like the little boy with his finger in the dike, trying to hold back the tide of stomach content.

There’s only one thing to do when this happens, and that is to get another Nutraport, take the old one out and pop the new one in. Sounds easy, right? But alas, not as easy as it sounds. Ike’s screamin, and every time he cries, a little fountain of gooey formula spurts out the hole making the whole thing a slippery mess. The Nutraport has about 5 ccs of water holding it in place and so that has to be removed before you can begin to wriggle it out. Ike is having a cow because as you can well imagine, it’s a little painful to have a big piece of plastic wriggled out of your stomach and Sweetie and I aren’t doing much better because having had little experience with this kind of thing, we’re not exactly sure how hard we can pull on it. I finally managed to get out the old one and put in the new one but not before everything in the room was soaked. Sweetie took the boy and gave him a bath, and the older boy and I cleaned up the room.

Really, it all worked out in the end, I mean if it had happened just an hour or so later, there would have been great competition between Sweetie and Ike as to who could make the bigger mess. Ike’s feelin fine today. Sweetie’s feelin fine today. The Older Boy’s feelin fine. I’m feelin fine. See….we’re all good.

Don’t look now, but I’m thinking of getting back in the swing of things. At least as far as writing goes…

I guess time will tell.
