The Mobile Home

I’m at a bit of a loss at the new double wide. Though I like the amount of space for most stuff, there seems to be a lack of space when it comes to my guitars and their like. I hesitate to put them out in the garage as I’m not comfortable with the temperature change out there and I don’t think it would be good for the wood. But the new place lacks a basement, and being that’s where I used to hide all my junk, I’m now not sure what I’m gonna about that. Right now I have everything stacked up in the dining room, in the spot that should occupy the dining room table. Fortunately, we got rid of the table we used to have, and there’s ample room for all the cases and miscellaneous boxes, though I can see that my gears days of remaining in that space are numbered.

This is the first place we’ve lived in where I don’t have a place that I can carve out for myself. Granted, we have lots of room on our lot where I could build a little studio for myself, but that seems a little ways down the road. Right now I have some of it over at Corlis’ basement studio and as the weeks go by, I’ll get a better idea of how that is gonna work out. Though we’ve moved so close we’re practically neighbors these days, they seem very far away.

Right now the focus of the house is really just getting everything dealt with and put away. This is somewhat complicated, due to the fact that we have yet to paint anything, and so this week we’ll pick out paint, maybe start getting the rollers out this weekend so that we can get the living room into some sort of livable shape and from there, branch out into the rest of the house.

I did manage to put up shelves in the boys room and attach a fire box to the side of my grill for the next bar-b-que. Most of the bedrooms are together somewhat—the boy’s rooms more than ours. Both boys have made the transition smoothly and I really think the Older Boy is enjoying having his bedroom so close to the action.

Other than paint, some carpeting is in order as I don’t particularly like the feel of cold wood on my feet all the time. We’ll leave the living room, dining room and kitchen the way they are, but I think we’ll carpet the bedrooms and the family room. Then we'll need to get window coverings so we can finally take down the aluminum foil that block the streetlights outside our windows.

But you know what? I can see a party not that far off on the horizon, Really…three or four weeks tops.
